How
to Pray for Unreached Peoples:
“How all things on earth can change,
if we believe and act.” "Go into the fire of hell!" roared the holy man. As if in a hypnotic trance, the chicken walked straight into the fire and was immediately consumed. After a few moments, the holy man retrieved an amulet that was around the neck of the chicken with a metal poker. To the amazement of the young, the amulet wasn't scorched. Everyone felt the presence of the deity. It was heavy and cruel. It was unforgiving and thirsty for loyalty. Throughout the night, the people prayed and sacrificed. The young boys and girls were taught the secret words and rituals that have been passed down from generation to generation. It is at this time that the people of this community commit themselves to their deity for another season. It is at this time that another generation is introduced to the deity and unholy allegiances are made. There is no other way known to this people. This community is part of an ethnic group, or what is also known as a people. These people are unreached with the Gospel. The barriers in many parts of the globe are strong, as they that prevent the Good News from penetrating their hearts (I Corinthians 2:12-15). There are several reasons for these barriers. The first is the obvious, which there are the Satanic strongholds, such as the example given. These occurrences are real. People have witnessed similar things in witchcraft and demonic oppression. In some of these cases there is healing for people, some power and while some receive finances. The second reason this all happens is that believers have not come to an understanding of who we are in Christ, our position and authority and God’s will in all of this. The third reason is the division that exists in the church. For example; in preaching the good news. What is the good news? Most certainly it is the story of Jesus and how He came to die and be risen for us and we are saved in turning our lives over to Him. The rest of the story is in this in turning our lives over to Him in an intimate relationship with Him in love we become like Him and as such become a part of the gospel. So depending on how one defines the word “gospel,” will determine the outcome and what is talked about. One version of the Gospel is that Jesus cares for all while another version of the Gospel is that Christ, both the head, which is Jesus and we are the body care about all as much as He does. Depending on what is evangelized in the “Gospel,” will determine the outcome. If it is all Jesus then often what happens is that a lack of growth happens and with that lack of growth there is a lack of stability, which will create division. The goal of a church is love and unity to reach all and to care for all in body, soul and spirit. The other thing that is important is to establish a church so there can be growth in the body. In establishing a church there needs to be the five fold gift ministry for balance, for the body to be stable and not tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine. If we truly surrender to Him, we will also learn to submit to one another and love one another as He has loved us. These are all important parts of the “Gospel.” Once we all can walk together as one body so we can be agreement, Amos 3:3, then all things can be done through Christ, head and body working together. The very power of God is in agreement to deal with all problems on earth. What two or three agree and touch any thing it will be done as long as we are all walking in agreement by His Spirit and in this there will be no division or schisms in the body. Prayer is needed that the body of Christ comes to maturity and comes together to work as one body so His will can be done on earth as it is in heaven. If His will is done on earth as it is in heaven there will be peace on earth and good will to all men. BREAKING DEMONIC ALLEGIANCES Once we begin to seek God for the body to gather and the body learns instead of seeking things, we seek His presence, because with His presence there is love and unity to deal with all things. We do not have to wait until the end for Him to return. We can and should be walking with each other and Him daily. His promise is that when two or three are gathered in His name, He is present. If we seek stuff and even knowledge we end up with something else, but if we gather in His name and seek His presence that is what we end up with. The bondage starts in the body and because of the bondage in the body there is allowed bondage in the unreached. If we love one another as the first churches in the book of Acts did, people would be coming to the church in droves, because they would see His love. The more love, the more prayer there will be and the less teaching and preaching there will be. We all need love. Once we, the church learn to seek that His will be done on earth as it is in heaven, then all unreached peoples can be reached as they are in demonic bondages that prevent them from responding to the Gospel. Most, if not all, unreached peoples make covenants with demonic deities. The cycle of demonic allegiances must be broken. God's people must pray that the eyes of their hearts may hear and understand who Jesus is and why He came to earth (Matthew 17:21). Beyond that God’s people also need to learn to walk in His authority to command the demons to depart. The body was sent to destroy the works of the devil and not put up with the devil.
"But some of them said, "He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the ruler of demons"" (Luke 11:15). There were two choices: (1) Jesus cast out demons by a higher demonic power or (2) the finger of God had cast out the demons. Unhappily, these people could not bring themselves to believe that someone other than a sadistic demonic power could cast out a demon. "But He knew their thoughts, and said to them, "Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste; and a house divided against itself falls. And if Satan also is divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? For you say that I cast out demons by Beelzebul. And if I by Beelzebul cast out demons, by whom do your sons cast them out? Consequently they shall be your judges. But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you"" (Luke 11:17-20). This is not a case of Satan usurping himself, but is what is called a "spiritual power encounter" between God and the demonic world. All the people knew that the man was demonized, and that the demon in his cruel grip tormented him so he could not speak. Jesus was able to break the power of the demon. Who has the power of God to cast out Demons? Those that believe. Mark 16:15-18 “And He said unto them, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe: In My name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them. They shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” It is important that once people have been delivered they need to be a part of the church so they can be stabilized and learn who they are in Christ, their calling and purpose in the body and receive training in their purpose and calling. In doing these things, has the power to change lives and communities. RECOGNIZE THE SPIRITUAL LANDSCAPE Often God's people do not realize when they are in a power encounter. Many in the church lack discernment. The Western view has dulled our ability to recognize the spiritual landscape. For example; often the spiritual realm has been described as superstitions, myths, wild imaginations or unscientific. Evangelistic and mission efforts are at times ineffective, because believers have not taken the spiritual dimensions into account. Elisha did well to pray that his servant could see with spiritually sensitive eyes (II Kings 6:15-19). "When a strong man fully armed guards his own homestead, his possessions are undisturbed; but when someone stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, he takes away from him all his armor on which he had relied, and distributes his plunder" (Luke 11:21-22). The strong man described here is a demon. The demon guards his territory. What is the spiritual territory that is in conflict? It is the souls of men, women and children. The strong man will guard his possession, the souls of people, until someone stronger than he subdues him. Only God can bind the strong man. He does so-with His power, working with the five-fold gift ministry and the church. All power in heaven and earth was given to the body, the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. Our prayers if done in love and unity can unleash the power of God and bind the strong man. This not only works for other countries and peoples, but also within companies or where we work. It all can be accomplished if we understand His ways and covenants and the five fold gift ministry and the work of the church. Many unreached people are unreached because God's people have not prayed strategically for their release and stood in His authority and covenants, His way by faith. In many instances, God's people could not pray strategically because they did not know who the unreached peoples were who have made allegiances to demonic deities centuries ago. God has given us the spiritual authority to occupy the gates of our enemy. Instead of using prayer as a combat communication device to unload Holy Spirit guided bombs to enemy targets, we often use prayer as a genie's lamp to lavish blessings on friends, family and ourselves instead of doing what God has called each of us to do (Matthew 16:18, Matthew 28:18, Acts 1:8, Romans 1:16, Ephesians 1:18-23). IS PRAYER IMPORTANT? YOU DECIDE
Prayer in communion with God and each other is crucial to everyday life and the overall purpose of the body and what the body is called to do. When we are focused on Him and communicate with each other in the body He is present and it is a form of prayer, praise and worship. We are all in a battle and the enemy works hard and full time to tell us that we are on our own and that there is no hope for any future here on earth. The first thing we all need to be resolved to doing is to stop listening to the enemy and learn to work together God’s way in prayer. It does not have to be long and tedious prayer but seeking Him and His presence and His will in all things, learning to go to Him for all things as He is Our Daily Bread. He is the bread of Life and the Tree of Life. When we are focused on Him and His presence, we are in prayer. In so doing we receive His peace and purpose and His will for us, which is a pleasure and not an arduous procedure. It is a religious spirit that makes it an arduous task and we need to recognize it and get rid of that spirit so we can have an intimate relationship with Him. The more intimate and the more love and the more love, the more power to overcome all things by the blood of the Lamb and the words of our testimony. BE A WATCHMAN We need to be like a watchman. In ancient times a watchman would be stationed in a high tower or on the wall that protected a city. Their job was to observe and sound the alarm when danger approached. A watchman didn't casually look beyond the city once in awhile but was to keep constant alert. He was to pay attention, to observe intently. He was to be wary. It was so important that the watchman perform his job properly, that, in many instances, the penalty for negligence was death. The whole population depended on his being alert and constantly being on the lookout for danger. Intercessors are priests of a royal priesthood and they are watchmen. They keep alert, seeking His presence and His ways in His covenants so all things can be dealt with and for provision to be made. They discern, because they understand the landscape and when they see something out of line with Him and His words then they dispatch angelic forces to do battle and call other believers to seek with them and stand with them in faith. It is not our responsibility to understand what to do about everything. It is our responsibility to cry a battle cry and alert other believers of what is happening so we can stand together and seek His will. There is power in unity. In communicating with other parts of the body and with the body standing with you in faith all things can be overcome. You may not have all of the answers, but somewhere, someone in the body, has been given the answer by God, in how to deal with the problem. The key is in the walking together as one body as we all have been given different gifts and purposes. LAYING SIEGE AND WATCHING Scripture tells us what to do, by example and how to do it. In the Old Testament there were watchmen who keep watch over the city. In Jesus time we see that He spent a lot of time in prayer and watched over those that God sent Him. If we are like Him then we should be doing the same things. In II Samuel 11:16 we find, "So it was Joab kept watch on the city." The watchman would observe enemy movements or would pay particular attention to the gates. Today in working together we can do the same if we work together with some watching the city and some watching the jobs we work at, while some are called to watch the government. In the OT it was the watchman’s job to observe and report if the enemy were trying to escape. Prayer and intercession is more than defensive, it is offensive. It is reporting what we see to the body so we can stand together and seek His presence and His will in all things, being in agreement with God and each other to accomplish His will. We seek God, through His Son in prayer, praise and commands to thwart or preempt enemy attacks. We can do so if we understand His will and His plan and His covenant provision and ways. Our job as Jesus’ job was to destroy the works of the enemy. We the body are charged with the same task. The body has the ability through Him to defeat and push out the enemy so God can occupy the hearts and minds of those that are presently held captive. INTERCESSION AND INFORMATION How we pray and what we pray for are important issues. Most today pray to seek God for stuff believing that is His will that we have all of this stuff. An old saying was “my name is Jimmy and give me all you will give me." It is much like God has become Santa Claus to many. I will say that what we ask for we will receive as that is His covenant promise but what we ask for is a condition of our hearts. Scripture tells us that He knows our needs, but for many they spend a lot of time seeking stuff. Of course this all sort of wears us out so there is not much time to pray for anyone else or anything else and often our prayers for the rest of it end up like, and by the way, “God bless all the missionaries of the world and God bless the poor and the hungry of India." Oh the poor people of India, if they only knew better? That is one way to look at it and the other way to look at it is “oh the poor people of the church if they only knew better.” I'm not sure how God answers prayers like this. The effectiveness of our prayers is often determined by the information that we possess, how we pray, if we think we know what we are doing and how we understand His will and plan. The first thing we have been given is the power of God to do is to pray with the body to seek His will in all things. The second thing we have the power of God to do is to release His Spirit on all problems and pray according to His will in His Spirit as we do not often have the insight as to how to pray or what exactly to pray for. Often times if we pray in error we all can be canceling each other’s prayers out. Having said that if God shows you in particular what to pray for then you should pray accordingly and specifically. Just as the watchman gathers information, so does the intercessor. That information needs to be passed onto the body so we all can seek His will in all of what is happening. It is a picture of how we can and should work as one body in His will. It is important to gather the facts of what is happening, like a newspaper reporter should gather the facts and report the facts. They should not gather their belief’s as to what they think is happening and why they think it is happening, but report the facts of what is happening. Proper reporting is important. We see and example of this with Moses as he sent out spies to the promised land. All but Joshua and Caleb came back with a report of “ there are giants in the land it is will be impossible to take the land.” Bad reporting based on our beliefs can cause a host of problems and keep us from the promised land as it did Israel for forty years. God wants the faithful to come back with the facts and a good report. We all need good information to be able to pray and seek His will, but the first step in seeking His will is to understand His will in what is happening so proper prayer can be accomplished in love and unity. That takes the body to seek and understand His will and through that seeking will come discernment in how to deal with the problem or need. Not only must we observe but we should search and dig for information that will fuel our prayers. SOME EXCITING INFORMATION The unreached peoples are members of the body that have not understood for whatever reason who they are in Him, their purpose and calling. Once this is accomplished and the body learns to work as one body all can be reached and helped. We have been given the power of God to end evil and for there to be peace on earth and good will to all men if we will understand His ways and covenant provision. He adopts us and if we are like Him we should have the heart to do as He does in adopting each other in the body and then through that love one for the other reach out and adopt all and care for all that He send us. It is the work of the body to do so. Not just the work as individuals but reaching out to the body so the body can be edified so we can all walk together as one body to deal with all needs and problems. We can do away with starvation, homelessness, drug abuse and other problems if we will all just do our part to end the work of the enemy. All people need to be adopted into the heavenly family and given freedom (Galatians 4:4-6) in love. Today the norm in most churches is that it is about 5% of the people that seem to do about 90% of the work. Often times instead of training the 90-95% that are not doing enough, the 5% just go and do the work instead of encouraging the ones that are not doing the work. It does vary from church to church and most churches do not have the mature mentors to help and exhort the rest of the congregation. The obvious is that it is a problem to get the rest of the congregation involved in order to get all of the work done that needs to be done. The bottom line is that new churches do not have the experience and often lack the necessary resources to evangelize newly established areas. Once again it is important for new believers to be established in Him and His ways or it can often cause people to fall away. It takes a certain amount of maturity to reach out to the unreached and deal with new believers properly, so they can be properly trained. People usually come to God when their lives are not going well and often times come with a lot of baggage that needs to be dealt with. It is much like children having children. We know that it does not work in the physical realm and does not work well in the spiritual realm either. New believers often times have not learned to listen to God, spend time praying or how to pray and have not had time to get in scripture or listen to those that are established in Christ. In other words part of the work is evangelism, but the follow up is as important as the reaching out. If the follow up is not done properly it is like asking non-believers to pray for themselves and expecting good results. Things can be turned around globally, but it takes mature believers at home in prayer, to pray for new congregations until they are able to stand. Even if they do grow the body needs to be far more connected to each other. It is God’s will that we do communicate, pray for, walk with and exhort one another, not just in our own congregations but build relationships with other congregations for strength. Let’s face it the more there is, the stronger we are, the more that can be accomplished. The weaker members follow those that have been around for a while, however just having been around does not make one strong in faith. It takes understanding biblical principles and understanding how to apply those principles to our everyday lives. There are five basic parts to learning: 1) Don't have a clue 2) Data: which is simply the ability to remember information 3) Knowledge: Which is having the data and knowing what it means. For example many can quote scripture backwards and forwards, but they do not really understand what it all means or how to apply it to everyday life. 4) Application: One step up from knowledge and this is where we begin to have some practical experience not only on what scripture says, but begin to learn how to apply it. One ingredient still missing, which is experience and how it all works and comes together. 5) Wisdom: which is having the information, knowing how to use it, being able to apply it in our own lives which will bring wisdom so we can help others. Our prayer is that everyone reaches wisdom level, which
will change lives and everything around us, because we are understanding
and walking in His ways. Learning to walk in His ways and building
relationship, not only with God, but each other takes some time and
effort. One more thing to be cautious about, which is often churches at
a point turn to just knowledge and teaching with the thought that we can
make choices when it is actually about learning to trust Jesus and go to
Him for all things and in all things. There were two trees in the Garden
of Eden. The Tree of Knowledge and the tree of life and by us accepting
Jesus as our Savior we have entrance into the garden but it is in
learning to make Him Lord of our lives do we eat from the Tree of Life. While prayer is good, which will lead to evangelism,
which will prayerfully lead to establishing planting and establishing
churches, what is equally important in all of what happens is that what
is established is a church based and focused on Him and His presence,
His ways and eating from the Tree of Life will bring stability and long
term growth for the congregation and training for them so they can reach
the rest of the people in the area that have not heard of the Gospel.
The objective is to reach all globally and that can be done if good
church planting is accomplished but it takes working with the five fold
gift ministry, to accomplish all that God has called the church to
accomplish in any given area. Otherwise division can and will set in,
destroying what has been accomplished. Each believer and each church
need to experience His love, mercy, power, relationship and forgiveness
so they can be a good witness to all people in any given area. If people
do not experience these things then there is often a skewed vision or
explanation of the Gospel. If everything is done properly the Holy
Spirit will be behind all of the work, because He cannot deny Himself.
It is important that all things established are done properly according
to His Spirit and scripture. Part of the prayer that is needed is for the Bible
Institute that it produces the type of students that are needed in order
to go to all parts of the globe. In addition, these believers called and
chosen of God need support in prayer, but also in finances. Once they
get where they are sent, because the area was opened up by prayer. Then
it becomes the task of having enough help in establishing a Bible School
for new believers to be trained. The next step is one of evangelism.
Evangelism can be done well if a Bible school has been established.
First the basics need to be taught of who they are in Christ, their new
family and how that family is to work together in love and unity. They
need to understand the gifts that God has given them and their calling
which comes from a prophetic ministry. Many that do come in, do so with
baggage that needs to be dealt with and that takes counseling and
mentorship as well as training. All these things are needed for proper
stability and growth and it all starts with prayer and His people
adopting others. Once adopted they become real and no longer stay in the
abstract. PRACTICAL STEPS How shall I begin the process of praying for an unreached people and what are the needs and solutions? Here is a suggested process to follow:
When learning and praying about an unreached people, it is important to pray that God will burden you, just as He is burdened for people. As you pray, God will burden your heart. John Knox, (1505-1572) prayed for Scotland many years ago. As a result, God burdened him further for the people of Scotland. He is remembered as saying, "God give me Scotland or I die." He had a passion for the lost as we all should. FOCUS ON GOD - NOT ON DEMONS It is essential to keep our focus on our heavenly Father when involved in warfare praying. It is an easy trap to focus on the enemy in our strategic prayers. Our goal should always be to give praise to our God, however often the focus in prayer sometimes turns to praying about how well the demons seem to be doing. We are to learn who we are in Christ and learn to pray the solution instead of praying or speaking problems. Prayer can be productive if we are moved by His Spirit in how to pray. We have the power of God to bind demonic spirits and loose God’s Spirit on all problems. Here are some helps: God's Plan for the Body and How to work as one Body, Words, the ultimate bomb of destruction, or the giver of Life! , Who I am in Christ, Gods Covenant with Us DECLARE GOD'S WISDOM Has it ever occurred to you that in the spiritual realm not all satanic forces are aware of Christ's victory at the cross and tomb? Why is it that in Ephesians 3:9-10 we read that we are to "bring to light what is the administration of the mystery which for ages has been hidden in God, who created all things; in order that the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known through the church to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places"? NEW (OLD) APPROACHES TO INTERCESSION 1) A new approach to short-term missions is to send prayer teams to regions where there has been little Christian witness or minimal response to the Gospel. These teams do not engage in evangelism or construction projects. They focus exclusively on information gathering and intercession on behalf of the people of the region. The principle involved is that of going on-site. These teams pray and praise God, and announce His glory to the principalities. Global Missions Initiative 2) Another approach is that of walking. We are to take back that which the enemy has stolen. This is done by faith and our declaration. As we walk we stand on God's Covenant promise of Joshua 1:3, "Every place on which the sole of your foot treads, I have given it to you," and Ephesians 6:15, "having shod your feet with the preparation of the Gospel of peace." As believers we are to walk our neighborhoods and places we work as well as the mission field and bind the demons of each household and pray for the salvation of each family as they pass by each house. We have been given authority to dispatch angels to do battle in the heavenly realm. If we see things that we know that are wrong we have the ability to do spiritual warfare and part of that is prayer but also to speak over situations and problems (Mark 11:23-24) and loose His Spirit on problems. Everywhere we walk we are to claim God’s authority so the nonsense can end. In not doing it, we allow the nonsense to continue. We are to overcome by the blood of the lamb and word of our testimony. God is the rightful ruler but His people have to do their part. It is much like the promised land. God told His people that they could live there, but Israel needed to do their part by faith. Global Missions Initiative 3) Power in agreement (Amos 3:3): There is great power in agreement. Can Two Walk Together? FINAL WORDS God in His provision gave His people the Covenants, but the people had to accept the covenants and walk in them by faith. Jesus was the last of the Covenants and we through Him have access to all the Covenants. We all do need to understand them and understand that He dwells with His people, if His people are interested in dwelling with Him. Today there are many things that are happening all around us, that are for the most part out of our control, i.e., tsunamis, earthquakes, hurricanes and a host of other problems. We either all of us take one of two stances. The first is that we are victims and can’t do much about it or we take the other stance by faith and tell the enemy that is enough and learn to stand on the Covenants by faith. After all in doing so it is a sign of what a Christian is supposed to do, Be like Him. The facts are we are to be like Him and be able to do the things He did if we are of Him. We can do so by walking in faith in what He has given us. He died a horrible death so we could through His resurrection have an anointing that was limited in the OT to kings prophets and priests. Each one of us can have His anointing but we have to learn to walk in it by faith. The problem is that for the most part is that we all sort of wait around for a guy like Moses to come along, when in actuality our covenant through Jesus is greater than what was given Moses. This of course is the good side. The bad side is that with this power we become responsible for what happens out there. What we do like to do is tell ourselves that we just do not understand that we cannot do those things as Moses did or do what Jesus did because we like to believe we are not capable when actually we don’t want to be responsible. We the body have been given the keys to the kingdom of God and all power and authority in heaven and earth, but it is much like the proverbial horse, where we can lead the horse to water, but can’t make it drink. It is much like the church you can lead the church to water, but you can’t make the church take the drink or take the much needed bath. The facts are that we are Ambassadors for Christ having the power and authority of Christ. Either that is true or scripture is not telling the truth. If it is true then perhaps we need to begin to accept it and walk in it so there might be some sanity and hope for any future. Like it or not, here is what scripture says and we either believe it or not. If we don’t believe it I am not sure how much of a believer we actually are. II Chronicles 7:14 “if My people, who are called by My name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” Like it or not, scripture is telling us that the reason things are the way they are today is because His people have not humbled themselves to God and sought His ways. We continue in our wicked ways. However, we still have time to turn to God and turn from our ways of doing things and learn to walk in faith. His promise is that He will hear us and heal the land. It should be obvious to anyone the land needs to be healed. We all have to face facts, we either are hearing from God and being led by His Spirit and as such we will overcome by the blood of the Lamb and word of our testimony and endure till the end or we are making excuses why we should not have to. Salvation by the way comes to those that do these things. That is what scripture says if we care to understand it. We all like to go to churches that tell us the good things, however we need to be going to a place where we find the truth for that is what sets us all free. We are God's agents and it is all in our hands. We need to get real with God and each other, desiring the truth more than what feels good. We do need to send missionaries to the unreached peoples, but by the same token we need to reach out to those in the church so we can walk in agreement to accomplish His will by faith. It starts with us and the church. We encourage and exhort all to work as one body to accomplish His will for there to be some peace on earth and good will to all men. We ask that you pray, seek His will and be moved by what He shows you. After all a son is one that is led by His Spirit. You can make a Difference We are responsible….. When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, We want our hand always to be there. For that we are responsible. We are responsible both to God and each other.
"Together we can make a change, we can make a difference!"
" God gave us His Son, Spirit, Love, Direction, Purpose, Gifts, and free will. He gave us all the basic tools to either care for Him and others or care just for ourselves.
It is a choice either way, to either learn to work together to solve problems, but at the end, when it is all said and done, our true hearts will be exposed. We are given two things to do, love God and love our neighbor as ourselves. |
