Welcome

This is Pastoral Counseling Services

through individual and or group counseling and support services

What is Pastoral Counseling?

Pastoral Counseling is a confidential relationship between a trained professional and a person who desires to see some changes in their life. Sessions are normally held weekly for 50 minutes and may be short term or long term - a few weeks, a few months, a year or more. Pastoral Counseling is based on Cognitive Restructuring (learning to walk in the Spirit and not the flesh).

Counseling is not so much a matter of getting advice as it is:

  • learning to listen to oneself

  • becoming detached enough to see a new perspective

  • learning how to get in line with God's will for you

  • learning new communication skills

  • sitting with old hurts (rather than brushing them away and finding they erupt in other ways)

  • looking at family-of-origin patterns that may no longer serve you

  • letting go

  • accepting limitations and weaknesses

  • recognizing and acting on strengths

  • risking new ways of being with oneself and others

These are just some of the things that clients have said were helpful to them in therapy.

What Makes it Pastoral Counseling?:

The Pastoral Counseling process recognizes that each of us is "made in the image and likeness of God," growing towards wholeness. It is about looking to God, as He is the solution, understanding that usually we have problems in life because of the results of a condition of our heart or spirit. It is learning who we are in Christ, our purpose or calling, and how to get on track in His perfect will.

When a person shares that which is most real, most true, even when it is full of brokeness, s/he is close to God. It is Truth that sets one free for healing. Pastoral Counseling believes Christ's words in the Gospels:

"I am with you always!"

Only you can decide!

If you seem to be having trouble in you life or want to learn how to overcome problems, events and situations in your life and you have a reached a point that you desire to change, you may be interested in this program. Should this be the case we suggest that you keep an open mind as the information provided here has the power to change your life. As you read this, consider your life and its direction. Determine for yourself if you really desire to change and if so know that there are people like you that will help along the way as it helps you and helps them also. You are not alone unless you want to be and we are all in this together. The deciding factor is if you are willing to make a change in your life realizing that what you have been doing is not working or working as well as you would like it to.

Who we are:

We are made up of a combination of two groups: first are the men and women that have been helped as a result of turning our lives over to God for His direction. We have learned that we are dependent on God and give our lives to God to help avoid disasters for ourselves and those close to us. Secondly we are counselors (professional and non) that have lived the problems and solutions that network with churches and other organizations in order to help those in need, no matter what the level of need.

On the professional side we offer one to one, group Pastoral support counseling, seminars, or self help information, depending on the need. In addition we also offer within our membership men and women of all ages and many social, economic, and cultural backgrounds who are willing to walk with you to help you find God’s will for you in your life, which we have found is the only way to fulfillment, stability, and joy. We have all come to learn that without God our lives are unmanageable and many as a result of going in our own direction some of us have either hurt others, lost our families, possessions, and self-respect. Some of us as a result of going our own direction have committed grave offensives against society, our families, our employers, and ourselves.

However, there is one thing that we all share and that is the sincere desire to stop the insanity in our lives and have learned that we need help from God and others in order to get our lives back. We are united by our common problems and a loving God.

We do not think or believe that we are the only solution to ending the insanity or have all of the answers. What we provide is a safe place, fellowship, and others that will walk with you and help you get your life back.

What we have learned:

The first thing that we have all learned is that all of at one time in our lives or another may need some help and we are all in the same boat. As such we are not much into criticism but have a desire to help and serve others. We have learned that when we give grace, love, forgiveness, and acceptance we are also given the same. We have learned that we all need God and each other and seek peace, truth, purpose, and fulfillment.

We have learned that it is difficult to go alone in life even because of our problems and sometimes the severity of problems as often times we feel as if we have been separated, but have also learned that many go through the things that we have been through.

Often times we all go through periods of dark despair when we are sure that there is something wrong with us mentally. Often times we came to hate ourselves for wasting what we have been given and for the trouble we have caused our families and others. Frequently we have indulged in self-pity and proclaimed that nothing could help us. We have learned that through Christ (Jesus the head and we are the body), we can do all things and can smile at those recollections now, but at the time they were grim, and unpleasant experiences.

Focus and direction:

We have learned that God has called each one of us to a purpose in life and have been given gifts and talents to help accomplish that purpose in order to take care of the needs of all. In addition, we have learned that we are all special in God’s eyes and He has trusted us to work with Him to accomplish His will in the lives of all.

We believe that it is not God’s desire nor His will that people go to bed hungry or have no place to live and have learned that He has given us the tools to deal with all of life’s problems and situations, but it is up to us to use the tools that we have been given.

We also believe that all problems can be resolved if we learn to work together as one body in love to accomplish His will for ourselves and all others on earth as it is in heaven.

We have learned through time that when self is at the center of our lives, His will is not being done and as a result, people get hurt. We desire because of person experiences and failures that we need to put God in the center of our lives and learn to give up our personal agendas so we may gain long term peace with God and all others.

I am responsible…..

When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want our hand always to be there. For that I am responsible.

We are responsible both to God
